Hall of Fame Award 2017: David P. Shebby

David P. Shebby wanted to be a lawyer since elementary school. Even at a young age, Shebby knew he was destined to “do good for society.” A graduate of Cal and Stanford Law School, he started a more traditional career in commercial litigation. Offering fuller service to his business clients introduced him to family law and a new passion. Thus, he began his path to helping families through difficult times in their lives. Now a certified family law specialist, Shebby uses his litigation prowess to help both persons of means and those without any ability to pay for legal services.

Shebby says that his motivation to help stems in large part from religious conviction requiring him to give back to the community and to people. Involvement in the Harriett Buhai Center has given him “personally meaningful and highly useful ways” to fulfill his obligation.

Originally recruited to the Harriett Buhai Center’s Board of Directors in 2008 as a representative for the Los Angeles County Bar Association Family Law Section, Shebby has been active in the governance of the Center ever since. He served as President for three years and currently heads a Board effort to plan for the Center’s future.

“My favorite part of the Center is the very high level of legal services it provides. The Center’s forte is not cookie-cutter divorces but instead sophisticated legal advocacy with respect to complex issues. Such elite representation, unavailable elsewhere for the low-income population we serve, is often life-altering for Center clients,” says Shebby.
