Center Starts Alumni Network; Hosts Mixer at the Culver Hotel
For many of our former interns, the Center is home. Those who have had the opportunity to spend a semester of law school working one-on-one with the Center’s staff know that interns are held to high professional legal standards. Not only are they taught case management skills and how to communicate effectively with clients, they learn how to start thinking and acting like lawyers. “I was able to get hands on experience and establish an invaluable network of relationships,” says former intern Edith Madrid, “I am walking away with a sense of accomplishment and knowing that my work was truly appreciated and valued.”
But, most of our interns don’t actually “walk away.” They are our volunteers, our staff, and our donors. They sit on our board and stay in touch with us throughout their careers. It is because of this commitment that we decided to form the Intern Alumni Network.
To get things started, a small group of former interns were asked to serve on our first Alumni Leadership Council. So far, this group has focused its efforts on expanding the Intern Alumni Network through social media and by hosting a holiday networking mixer (pictured left). The mixer was held on Wednesday, December 3rd at The Culver Hotel. We’re looking forward to having more events like this in the New Year! You can check out photos from the event on the HBCFL Alumni Network Facebook page.
If you were a Center law student intern who would like to get involved in the Alumni Network, please become a fan of our Facebook group: HBCFL Alumni Network.
