CLE: New Volunteer Training for Legal Assessment and Brief Counsel and Advice

Program Overview
This new training session is intended to provide volunteers with the essential tools to conduct a first client interview and provide brief legal advice and counsel to low-income individuals at the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law. At the conclusion of this program, volunteers will be scheduled to provide initial legal assessments for Center clients.
At this interactive session, volunteers will:
- Learn about what work is done at the Center and opportunities for involvement;
- Receive an overview of family law and procedure;
- Discuss successful interview practices;
- Review questions for the first client interview;
- Observe a mock interview;
- Ask questions and get answers about the Center, its clients and initial case screening and advice.
About Our Speakers
This session will be conducted by experienced staff and volunteers of the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law. Sascha Bensinger, a Center “Hall of Fame” volunteer and former Loyola Law School professor and current instructor with years of experience in client interviewing, will provide guidance in best practices for maximizing the first client interview.
