New Volunteer Training 2018
Saturday, February 3, 2018 ● 8:30am-4:30pm ● 6.0 CLE Credits ● Loyola Law School
The purpose of this all day training is to prepare new volunteers to provide legal assistance to low-income clients of the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law (Center). The day will be spent understanding the work performed by volunteers and learning the fundamentals of family law practice at the Center. The sessions will focus on issues arising for very low-income family law litigants and the strategies and methods developed over time to help them.
Program Objectives:
At this interactive program, new volunteers will:
Learn and better understand the roles they will play at the Center, expectations about their service to clients, and Center operations;
Observe and discuss a mock initial client interview similar to that which will take place at the Center;
Review and become familiar with some family law forms and laws from the start of a case to the end as they pertain to Center clients and cases;
Interact with experienced volunteers, Center staff and new participants to become a member of the Center’s team.
Book
The Center’s well-regarded publication California Family Law Basics will be available for purchase by program participants. To view information about the book, click here.
